Government Spending

Government spending is out of control and has been for decades. We continue to elect representatives who do not have our best interests. Our government is NOT fiscally responsible. The Government Accountability Office estimates that the federal government loses up to 521 billion dollars to fraud each year. The Pentagon has failed its financial audit for the eighth consecutive year.  For change to occur, we must change how we vote in order to keep our government accountable.

As of early 2026, America is 38 trillion dollars in debt. In 1999, when Mike Simpson was elected to Congress, our debt was $ 5 trillion. In the 27 years he has been in office, our debt has increased by $ 29 trillion.  1 trillion dollars is the estimated amount for interest alone on our 38 trillion dollar debt. Career politicians without term limits continue to spend money we don't have. Unfortunately, we continue to elect career politicians who won't balance our budget.  We need change, and that can start here in Idaho. Idaho has a state law requiring the state budget to be balanced each year. Why is that also not the requirement for the United States of America?

Warren Buffett had a simple idea: pass a law that says that anytime the deficit exceeds 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. There needs to be consequences for Congress not doing its job. We can do this by voting out career politicians and voting in new members of Congress who put America first. For change to occur, we must change how we vote in order to keep our government accountable.

Paid for by Sean Higgins for Congress, Sean Higgins Treasurer.
